Margo Adkins
| Margo discovered her love of pottery in her senior year of high school, when she started making pottery to give as gifts to her friends and won the Best of Show in a citywide high school art show. She later attended the University of Central Florida to study pre-med biology, completed three years of med school at the University of Miami and moved to Austin, TX to be closer to her parents and studied nursing at UT.Around this time, she got a kiln, which allowed her to control the glazes on her figures, and she was able to sell her art to make a living. She began making clown figures and wizard heads, as she has always had a fondness for clowns.
She found art to be therapeutic for her when she was diagnosed with a mental illness called schizoaffective disorder, which made it difficult for her to concentrate. She was able to see the good in herself when she saw the good in her art. Margo came to Imagine Art in 2010 with the help of a friend and says it was a “gift from heaven.” When she gets frustrated because she can’t do the things she wants to do from her limitations, she can come to Imagine Art and not feel like a failure. Margo sells her clay art through Imagine Art and other various art shows. She has also participated in the I’m Your Mirror Exhibit. “Art is my sanity. It heals me. It makes my life make sense.” -Margo Adkins |
