About the Project

Multimedia Artist Imagine Art Artist In Residence Bryana Iglesias and assistant illustrator Tiara Kinnebrew in partnership with Imagine Art non-profit and Foundation Communities collaborate to create “Hope Mural.” Bryana and Tiara have a passion for uniting underserved communities through the medium of art. Their mission is to unite people by creating a brighter thriving future. They use experience in community development, fine arts, and sociological imagination to implement their practice. Their facilitation of Hope Mural will serve two non-profits, by providing a community mural that represents residents of Foundation Communities, and in-house workshops around muralling with assistance of Imagine Art Artists with disabilities.

The Design of Hope Mural serves Foundation Communities-Garden Terrace by fusing residents' notion of what looks like home. The diverse population at Garden Terrace gathered through town hall and reiterated the importance of hope in regards to Foundation Communities due to their previous displacements in Austin, Texas. Residents expressed the concept of community and safety through symbolic features that are portrayed in HopeMural. One of the most exciting features of symbolic representation was their care for feral white cats. Cats are of importance to the community because of the connections both humans and animals have through the symbiosis of life equating unity.

Imagine Art Artists participating in the program Art-A-Go-Gogh will assist in hosting community art workshops around the implementation of Hope Mural. Using previous knowledge around arts education they will gain hands-on experience serving other communities while practicing their skillset. Artists will facilitate the mural process by guiding residents through the production process of painting. They will use techniques such as color theory, and line work.

Together, through Hope Mural we all work towards a brighter thriving future. Our efforts sprout connection, education, and inspiration for local Austin communities during a time in which we need it the most. Bryana and Tiara are honored to lead this project's process and strive to ignite smiles on the way.
