Painting Team Finds Inspiration in the Masters

The Post-Impressionists and divine sources are inspiration for this talented duo of painting instructors. You will also be able to see how these influences manifest in their students.

Teachers Juan Delgado and Nancy West, along with Chris Schroeder, coordinate as team members to instruct student painters at Imagine Art. Their aim is to provide students with skills and opportunities to be successful and job ready, when the time comes.

Juan Delgado

Juan comes across as soft-spoken and articulate. His inspiration comes from his creator and the divine. He is witness to the Divine and scribe of his realm.

As a team member he is willing to listen and find ways to get things done right. The moment he knew he was fulfilling his destiny was when a student took her time to tell him, “Mr. Juan, I learned so much. I’m getting better, and I’m having fun.”

The one thing he wants students to take away at the end of the day is that artists don’t make bad art, but learn to communicate better with their art. The opportunity to share what the Divine has taught him with those who are willing to learn, is what led him to be a teacher at Imagine Art.

He sees the long-term goals of the painting team are to help the artist show innovative artwork and be able to discuss it clearly and effectively. One of his artist opportunities was a focus was on Keith Haring’s work, the New York graffiti artist. Through Haring’s art, Juan demonstrated ways that physical movements evoke personality and emotion.

Nancy West

Nancy is motivated by the post-impressionists, and you can see their effect on her own art. Her  influences are artists like Van Gogh, Gauguin, and Matisse whose styles are immediately recognizable, as is hers. She takes the lens of the post-impressionists and reflects that view onto each of her canvases.

Being strongly independent, she has a fierce determination to always be a teacher and a student. She brings that independent streak to the group. Nancy wants to be the best member she can be within Imagine Arts as a whole.

Watching her students have ahh-ha! moments, as they were learning about color theory, is a lasting memory for her. Her students began with primary colors on their palates, then mixed in other colors and watched as they turned to secondary colors. Their expressions were full of surprise and amazement.

“One thing I hope to instill is that they  understand that we all take turns being students and teachers. I love my IA family and just want to give a piece of what I’ve been given.”

Her long-term goal is to help each artist achieve his or her goals artistically. For an artist opportunity Nancy arranged a Zoom session with an artist that showcased her professional activities.
