Nothing About Us Without Us Exhibit

We are excited to announce our participation in the exhibit Nothing About us Without Us in collaboration with Matthew Forrest. The exhibit will run January 16 - March 6 at Flatbead Center for Contemporary Printmaking.

The Training 4 Transformation peer support training project of Imagine Art in Austin,Texas, has provided the perfect base for this collaborative work with Matthew Forrest, artist, educator, and printmaker.

Teel Montague, Project Director for T4T, a native of Atlanta,Georgia and graduate of Georgia Tech, is an inventor with patents, a songwriter, performing artist and mental health peer supporter. She is passionate about collaborating with others to provide elegant solutions that bring about systems change. Debbie Kizer, Imagine Art's CEO, had long envisioned creating a board game as an interactive way to equip individuals to provide peer support, so Teel was thrilled when Matt Forrest reached out for a collaboration. She discovered that not only could Matt and Georgia College & State University help with creating the board game, his class had coincidentally just had board game prototyping as their main project for that semester. And they would still be on display when Teel traveled through Middle, Georgia to visit family! Matt and Teel had an initial meeting on campus, where he explained the various concepts and features of each game on display. The result of the collaboration between Matt Forrest, the T4T team, and Imagine Art artists, is the exhibit Nothing About us Without Us which will be on display in Austin, Texas at Flatbed Printing January 16, 2021 - March 6, 2021.

We hope this to be the first of many creative, collaborative projects between Imagine Art and GCSU.

Contributors to this project are:

Kelley Abell, T4T Program Facilitator, Training and Outreach Coordinator
Kelley is a performer, educator, and facilitator committed to equity and inclusion in the arts. In her position at Imagine Art, she enjoys collaborating with other artists to create community, critical conversation, and opportunities for self-advocacy. A firm believer that every person should be able to share their talents and pursue their dreams, Kelley was thrilled to co-conceive of The Dream board game. She hopes people will use the game to think critically about self-advocacy, how to approach challenges, and the incredible power of collaboration.

Kayla Skubiata, T4T Graphic Design & Project Support

Kayla is an Austin-based graphic designer and began working at Imagine Art at the start of 2020. She is also a painter and enjoys connecting with other artists through peer support at Imagine Art.
